Oi pessoal, como vocês estão! 🙂 Dúfam, že je to správne! Je to váš prvý rozhovor so slovenským časopisom?
Áno! Niektoré webové stránky a blogy v Amerike už publikovali články o našej kapele, ale toto je prvýkrát v Európe. Komunikujeme aj s niektorými webovými stránkami a rozhlasovými stanicami, aby sme propagovali našu hudbu.
Čo je nového v Brazílii?
Brazília je tiež krajinou metalu, tento rok sa tu uskutoční mnoho podujatí a festivalov, deje sa tu veľa dobrých vecí, čo sa týka heavy metalu, a mnoho európskych kapiel sem tiež príde hrať.
Na úvod, trochu predstav vašu kapelu. Začali ste hrať len prednedávnom, ak sa nemýlim.
Takže! Sme WAREIGN, metalová kapela s vplyvmi rôznych štýlov. Naším cieľom je robiť veľmi technický heavy metal s postapokalyptickými textami, chronologickou tematikou, ktorá odkazuje na chaotický scenár sveta po jeho zničení vojnami s použitím chemických a jadrových zbraní (je to ďaleko od toho, aby sa to stalo? Dúfam, že áno). Kapelu tvoríme ja, Hugowar (gitara a spev); Van Oliveira (gitara); Sica Correa (bicie) a Guilherme Majzoub (basgitara). Svoju činnosť sme začali v roku 2023, keď som sa presťahoval do São Paula, do hlavného mesta. Žil som na severe krajiny (Belém do Pará) a už som mal tento projekt v hlave. Potom som spojil svoje nápady s Vanom, pretože som ho už poznal zo spoločných vystúpení s jeho starou kapelou a mojou starou kapelou, a to v São Paule aj na severe krajiny. Potom sme naberali ďalších členov, až kým sme nedosiahli túto súčasnú zostavu.
Ako by ste opísali váš štýl?
Nemôžem poprieť, že moje najväčšie vplyvy sú Thrash a Heavy Metal! Keď sme však začali skladať skladby, videli sme, že by bolo skvelé zaradiť Riffy v štýle Death (kapela), pretože je to jedna z obľúbených kapiel všetkých členov, okrem iných ako napríklad Sepultura, Krisiun a Carcass, ale naším najväčším vplyvom je Thrash Metal.
Je dôležité stanoviť si víziu, aký druh hudby budete hrať, alebo chcete mať slobodu, možno aj experimentovať v budúcnosti?
Ja uprednostňujem slobodu, pretože môžem povedať, že som veľmi všestranný hudobník, čo sa týka metalu, páčia sa mi mnohé veci, mnohé štýly, v súčasnosti je metal rozdelený na mnoho odvetví a je komplikované zapamätať si názvy štýlov v ňom, môžem povedať, že ma ovplyvňuje všetko od klasického rocku až po najextrémnejší metal.
Vnímam a počujem vo vašej hudbe veľa známok starého thrash metalu z 80.tych rokov, súhlasil by ste s týmto tvrdením?
Áno, hehehe! Ako som už povedal, fascinuje ma nielen thrash, ale aj metal z 80. tych rokov, je to môj najväčší vplyv, ale stále počúvam nové kapely.
Aký je to pocit byť metalovým hudobníkom v Brazílii?
Znamená to byť bojovníkom! Hrám metal už vyše 25 rokov a môžem to povedať! V Brazílii je veľa dobrých kapiel, ale národná kultúra nás nepodporuje. Undergroundové kapely bojujú o usporiadanie akcií a hľadanie priestorov na hranie. Tu v São Paule je veľa akcií všetkých typov, malé, stredné a veľké metalové festivaly, ale táto realita neodráža celú krajinu. Avšak, nevzdávame sa. Internet veľmi pomohol pri propagácii metalovej hudby. Je to veľký krok vpred pre kapely, ale stále je tu veľa čo robiť.
Zaujíma ma názov vašej kapely. Znamená to, že vládne vojna, alebo vláda vojny?
WAREIGN je kombinácia War + Reign, ale neznamená to slová doslovne, je to prakticky len meno. Dôležité meno v deji našich textov piesní, čoskoro ho všetci budú poznať.
Nový singel sa volá New World. Úvodné obrázky naznačujú akúsi chemickú vojnu, mám pravdu? Je to len nápad na texty alebo pieseň, alebo ste chceli povedať niečo iné?
Áno, ako som už povedal, texty sú chronologické a založené na postapokalyptickej dystopickej budúcnosti. Nový svet je začiatok všetkého! Ako vidíte z nášho artworku, ľudia nosia masky, aby dýchali vzduch znečistený chemickým odpadom spôsobeným vojnami, ktoré používali jadrové zbrane. Príbeh textov tiež rozpráva o tom, ako ľudstvo, ktoré prežilo, bojuje o zabezpečenie potravy a iných vecí, pričom sa formuje do malých skupiniek preživších.
Úplne rozumiem. Približne 1500 km od môjho domova je v Ukrajine frontová línia. Nemyslím si však, že to je to, čo ste mysleli.
Ale áno. Vojna na Ukrajine je realita, ktorú sledujem, a istým spôsobom ma ovplyvnila pri písaní niektorých vecí, pretože sme sa všetci obávali a stále obávame. Svet sa mení, Trump v Bielom dome je veľká neznáma, nikto netuší ako bude pokračovať svetová politika, pretože v konečnom dôsledku to, čo hýbe svetom, je práve toto – moc a chamtivosť, tak sa správa ľudstvo, moje texty hovoria o udalostiach, ktoré sa bohužiaľ ľahko stanú realitou.
Čo z vás robí Brazílsku kapelu, mám na mysli po zvukovej stránke? A pripadá ti to vlastne dôležité?
Nie je to tak, že by sme si nemysleli, že je to dôležité, ale radšej sa necháme ovplyvňovať národnými metalovými kapelami. Hlavný hudobný štýl a hudobná kultúra, ktorá v Brazílii prevláda, nemá veľa spoločného s naším štýlom. Existujú kapely, ktoré v svojich skladbách používajú niektoré hudobné prvky odtiaľ, ale to nie je náš prípad. Príbehy našich skladieb sa práve vyvíjajú, kto vie, či v budúcnosti napíšeme niečo, čo bude zahŕňať hudobnú kultúru odtiaľto. Uvidíme!
Nedávno ste vydali nový singel. Plánujete už aj celý album? Na vašom YouTube kanáli je uvedený rok 2025, ale mohol by ste poskytnúť ďalšie podrobnosti?
Áno, v roku 2025 vydáme náš prvý štúdiový album, už na ňom pracujeme. V blízkej budúcnosti zverejníme viac noviniek a vydáme novú skladbu.
Práve sme začali nový rok, 2025. Aké sú vaše plány na nový rok okrem nového albumu?
Zatiaľ sa sústredíme na nahrávanie albumu a následne na tvorbu videoklipov, ale máme veľa plánov pre kapelu. Jedným z nich je napísať knihu o našich príbehoch!
Aké sú vaše hudobné sny a ciele do budúcnosti?
Najprv chceme vydať náš debutový album a nadviazať partnerstvá s vydavateľstvami a nahrávacími spoločnosťami. Chceme vydať veľa merchandise s logom kapely, ako tričká, čiapky a plynové masky, hehe! Potom chceme hrať na koncertoch, aby sme šírili našu hudbu a posolstvo, možno dokonca absolvovať turné po Európe, Amerike a Ázii. Všetko je možné. Myslíme na budúcnosť, máme hlavu v oblakoch, no nohy pevne na zemi. Pred nami je veľa práce, aby sa veci v kapele pohli vpred.
Blížime sa ku koncu. Je niečo, čo by ste chceli povedať svojim slovenským fanúšikom a našim čitateľom?
Chcem všetkých pozdraviť a z celého srdca poďakovať každému, kto podporuje našu hudbu a náš boj na svetovej metalovej scéne, najmä na Slovensku. Nesklameme vás, môžete sa tešiť, pretože čoskoro vydáme veľa noviniek. Robíme všetko pre to, aby sme vám dali to najlepšie. Obrovské metalový objatie pre fanúšikov na Slovensku a v celej Európe a pre čitateľov časopisu po celom svete.

Oi pessoal, como vocês estão! 🙂 Hope it ´s correct! Is it your first interview with a Slovakian magazine?
Yes! Some websites and blogs here in America have already published articles about our band, but this is the first time in Europe. We are talking to some websites and radio stations there too, to promote our music.
What’s new in Brazil?
Brazil is the land of metal too, this year there will be many events and festivals here, a lot of good things in relation to heavy metal happening, and many European bands coming to play here too.
To start this interview, introduce your band a bit. You started playing not so long ago, am I right?
Well! We are WAREIGN, a metal band with influences from various styles. Our goal is to make very technical heavy metal with post-apocalyptic lyrics, a chronological theme that refers to a chaotic scenario of the world after its destruction by wars using chemical and nuclear weapons (is this far from happening? I hope so). The band is composed of me, Hugowar (guitar and vocals); Van Oliveira (guitar); Sica Correa (drums) and Guilherme Majzoub (bass). We started our activities in 2023 when I moved to São Paulo, the capital. I lived in the north of the country (Belém do Pará) and already had this project in mind. Then I put my ideas together with Van’s, because I already knew him from shows he had done with his old band and my old band, both in São Paulo and in the north of the country. Then we recruited the other members until we reached this current formation.
How would you describe your style?
I can’t deny that my biggest influences are Thrash and Heavy Metal! However, when we started composing the songs we saw that it would be great to include Riffs in the Death style (the band), as it is one of the favorite bands of all the members, among others like Sepultura, Krisiun and Carcass for example, but our biggest influence is Thrash Metal.
Do you actually find it important to set a vision of what kind of music to perform or you want to have the freedom to maybe even experiment in the future?
I prefer freedom, because I can say that I am a very versatile musician in relation to metal, I like many things, many styles, nowadays metal has been divided into many branches, and it is complicated to memorize the names of styles within it, I can say that I am influenced by everything from classic rock to the most extreme metal.
I can hear a lot of traces of old 80s thrash metal music, would you agree with this statement?
Yes hehehe! As I said before, not only Thrash but metal from the 80s fascinates me, it’s my biggest influence, but I’m always listening to new bands.
How does it feel to be a metal musician in Brazil?
It’s being a warrior! I’ve been playing metal for over 25 years and I can say that! There are many good bands in Brazil, but the national culture doesn’t support us. Underground bands struggle to hold events and find spaces to play. Here in São Paulo, there are many events of all types, small, medium and large metal festivals, but this reality doesn’t reflect the whole country. However, we don’t give up. Nowadays, the Internet has helped a lot in promoting metal music. It’s a big step forward for bands, but there’s still a lot to be done here.
I am interested in the name of your band. Does it mean that the war reigns or the reign of war?
REIGN is the combination of War + Reign, but it does not mean the words literally, it is practically a name. An important name in the plot told in the lyrics of the songs, soon everyone will know it.
The new single is called New World. The opening images indicate a sort of a chemical war, don´t they? Is it just an idea for the lyrics or a song or you wanted to say something else with it?
Yes, as I said before, the lyrics are chronological and based on a post-apocalyptic dystopian future. New Word is the beginning of everything! As you can see from the art we have, people wear masks to breathe the air that is polluted by chemical waste caused by wars that used nuclear weapons. The story of the lyrics also tells how the humanity that survived fights to ensure food and other things, forming survival groups.
If it does, I completely understand. Something like 1500 kms from my home, there is a war front line in Ukraine. However, I don’t think this is what you meant.
The war in Ukraine is a reality that I follow and in a way it influenced me to write some things, because we were all and still are apprehensive about it, the world is changing, now with Trump in the White House there is a big unknown as to how world politics will continue, because after all what moves the world is this, power and greed, that’s how humanity moves, my lyrics talk about events that unfortunately are not difficult to become reality.
What makes you sound Brazilian or you don’t find this that important?
It’s not that I don’t think it’s important, but I prefer to be influenced by national metal bands, the musical style and musical culture that predominates in Brazil doesn’t have much affinity with our style, there are bands that use some musical elements from here in their songs, but that’s not our case, at the moment, the stories of the songs are developing, who knows in the future we’ll write something involving the musical culture from here, we’ll see!
You have released a new single recently. Any plans for the entire album? It says 2025 on your youtube channel but can you provide any other details?
Yes, now in 2025 we will release our first studio album, we are already working on it, in the near future we will release more news and we will release a new song.
We have just opened a new year, 2025. What are your plans for the new year, besides the new album?
For now we are focused on recording our album, then making some video clips, but we have many plans for the band, one of them is writing a book about the stories!
What are your dreams or goals for the future, music wise?
First, we want to release our debut album, establish partnerships with labels and recording companies. We want to release a lot of band merchandise, like shirts, caps and gas masks, hehe! Then we want to play around to spread our sound, our message, maybe even do a tour in Europe, America and Asia. Everything is possible. We are thinking about the future, our heads in the clouds but our feet on the ground. We have a lot of work to do to make things happen in the band.
