Festival South of Heaven Zbytiny IV ročník, který se odehraje v letošním roce 2025, opět přinese různé speciality pro návštěvníky, a obměnu kapel. South of Heaven festivalem velmi přátelským na naprosto suprovém místě, kdy pořadatelé VÁM každý rok přinášíme jinou porci skupin. Nejsme zaměřeni na stálé opakování jedněch a těch samích kapel z Čech i ze světa. Co nám k tomu řekli samy skupiny, si můžete přečíst v přidaných rozhovorech.
Alan – Ahoj. Jak jste se dozvěděli o našem festivale?
Tobias Brutschi – O vašem festivalu víme už pár let. Poté, co tam v roce 2024 hráli naši kamarádi z Victorius a hýřili neuvěřitelnou atmosférou, nám bylo jasné – chceme přijet do Zbytin a zahrát si v lomu!
Alan – Festival South of Heaven se odehrává v lomu s naprosto fantastickou akustikou. Těšíte se?
Tobias Brutschi – Dobrá akustika je samozřejmě obrovským přínosem pro naši hudbu. Jako symfonická metalová kapela vždy dodáváme plnou dávku epičnosti a síly – s fantastickým hlasem Debory Lavagnolo se to stane skutečným potěšením pro všechny posluchače. Už se nemůžeme dočkat cesty na jih!
Alan – Když už jsme v lomu, hráli jste na nějakém zajímavém místě? A jaký z toho jste měli dojmy?
Tobias Brutschi – Za poslední roky jsme odehráli více než 120 koncertů, některé byli velmi zajímavé. Měli jsme dokonce možnost vystupovat v největším kasinu ve Švýcarsku, také jsme hráli v obrovských halách až po obýváky bytů. Každý koncert je pro nás jedinečný a výjimečný – prostě milujeme přinášet fanouškům naši hudbu, naše Deep Sunlights. Chceme je na krátkou chvíli vytrhnout z jejich stresujícího každodenního života, dát jim pauzu a možná i novou motivaci čelit obtížným výzvám. A je jedno, jestli je před pódiem 20 nebo 2000 lidí.
Alan – Co zajímavého na festival přivezete, krom dobré nálady a vaší hudby? Nová deska, pyrotechnika …..?
Tobias Brutschi – Určitě přivezeme zbrusu nové album Storyteller. S ním děláme další krok v historii naší kapely: je epičtější, soudržnější a plná příběhů – ze života, z temných koutů světa. Vidíme se jako vypravěči a baviči. Jsme obzvláště hrdí na to, jak se náš zvuk vyvíjel, a na čerstvou energii, kterou přináší náš nový kytarista Erik Dummermuth. Aranžmá se ještě více vytříbilo a Deborin hřejivý hlas září víc než kdy jindy. Takže to nebude jen koncert – bude to zážitek!
Alan – Na festival South of Heaven jedete jen na otočku, nebo je součástí letního tour?
Tobias Brutschi – Toto je součást naší Storyteller Tour 2025, která nás provede velkými částmi Evropy. Začali jsme v Rakousku, pak jsme prošli Velkou Británií, Lichtenštejnskem, Německem a Švýcarskem – a teď jsme velmi rádi, že jsme s vámi v České republice! Koncertování jsme rozdělili do 2 až 3denních sekcí, abychom zůstali svěží a oslovili co nejvíce lidí. U nás to funguje opravdu dobře.
Alan – Sledujete náš festival delší dobu? Pokud ano, jak dlouho, a co vás na něm nejvíce zaujalo?
Tobias Brutschi – Myslím, že malé festivaly jsou úžasné. Jste stále velmi blízko fanouškům. Za organizací je tolik vášně a úsilí od každého zúčastněného člověka – a můžete to cítit. Opravdu nás to motivuje být součástí něčeho takového a přispět svým dílem.
Alan – Pojďme do vaší kotliny – domoviny. Jak se vám tam hraje? Jaké máte zázemí ohledně fans?
Tobias Brutschi – Švýcarsko je možná malé, ale má velmi živou metalovou scénu. Možná ne tolik v žánru symfonického metalu, ale i tam je krásná a skutečně vděčná fanouškovská základna. Právě teď jsou kapely jako Illumishade nebo Ad Infinitum na podobné úrovni jako my.
Na Deep Sun je zvláštní to, že jsme 100%. Začali jsme v roce 2006 jako garážová kapela a od roku 2011 hrajeme v téměř stejném složení. Pro nás je to téměř rodinný projekt. Milujeme být na cestách a na pódiu společně – a fanoušci tu energii rozhodně cítí.
Alan – Obecná otázka, jak vnímáte festivaly, jaká je možnost a podmínky za jakých se na ně lze dostat a zahrát s kapelou? Máte nějakou pikantní zkušenost s podmínkami či přístupem pořadatele festivalu?
Tobias Brutschi – Neřekl bych, že jsem všechno viděl, co se organizátorů týče – ale rozhodně jsem toho viděl hodně. Zážitků je celá řada. Naštěstí jsme nikdy neměli opravdu špatný koncerty. Jistě, věci nejdou vždy podle plánu, ale nikdy to nebylo opravdu hrozné. Je to také proto, že si vybíráme, kde chceme hrát, jsme dost flexibilní a sami si organizujeme věci tak, aby nám vše fungovalo. Zatím to vždy dopadlo dobře. Nebo… je něco, co bych měl vědět o vašem festivalu? 😉
Alan – A s tím související otázka: jezdíte na nějaké festivaly jako fanoušci? Na jaké a proč?
Tobias Brutschi – Osobně jako manažer labelu občas jezdím na festivaly – hlavně proto, abych viděl své vlastní kapely nebo objevoval nové zajímavé skupiny.
Alan – Závěrem bych se zeptal na vaše hudební vzory a co momentálně posloucháte?
Tobias Brutschi – Právě teď většinou poslouchám krátké úryvky našich nových písní – a zároveň vytvářím kotouče pro naše kanály sociálních médií. Opravdu chcete vědět, co poslouchám? Pak nás sledujte na sociálních sítích! Hudebně jsme jasně ovlivněni symfonickým metalem – kapelami jako Nightwish, Within Temptation a možná trochu Epica. Ale také se cítíme jako doma v power metalu, který dodává našim písním potřebný punc vedle epičnosti. Popsat to je vždy těžké… opravdu nás potřebujete zažít naživo – pak uvidíte, jak Deep Sun skutečně září.

The 4th edition of the South of Heaven Zbytiny festival, which will take place in 2025, will again bring various specialties for visitors and a change of bands. South of Heaven is a very friendly festival in an absolutely great place, where the organizers bring YOU a different portion of groups every year. We are not focused on constantly repeating the same bands from the Czech Republic and the world. You can read what the groups told us about it in the added interviews.
Alan – Hello. How did you find out about our festival?
Tobias Brutschi – We’ve known about your festival for a few years now. After our friends from Victorius played there in 2024 and raved about the incredible atmosphere, it was clear to us: we want to come to Zbytiny and play in the quarry!
Alan – The South of Heaven festival is in a quarry with absolutely fantastic acoustics. Are you looking forward to it?
Tobias Brutschi – Good acoustics are of course a huge benefit to our music. As a symphonic metal band, we’re always delivering a full dose of epicness and power – and with Debora Lavagnolo’s fantastic voice, it becomes a true delight for all listeners. We can’t wait to travel south!
Alan – Speaking of the quarry, did you play in any interesting places? And what were your impressions of it?
Tobias Brutschi – Over the past years, we’ve played more than 120 shows and have been around quite a bit. We even had the chance to perform at the largest casino in Switzerland, but also on stages ranging from massive halls to people’s living rooms. Every concert is unique and special to us – we simply love bringing our music to the fans, our Deep Sunlights. We want to take them out of their stressful everyday lives for a short moment, give them a break, and maybe some new motivation to face difficult challenges. And for that, it doesn’t matter if there are 20 or 2,000 people in front of the stage.
Alan – What interesting things will you bring to the festival, besides good mood and your music? New album, pyrotechnics …..?
Tobias Brutschi – We’ll definitely be bringing our brand-new album Storyteller. With it, we’re taking the next step in our band history: it’s more epic, more cohesive, and full of stories – from life, from the dark corners of the world, and from far-off stars. We see ourselves as storytellers and entertainers.
We’re especially proud of how our sound has evolved and of the fresh energy that our new guitarist Erik Dummermuth brings. The arrangements have become even more refined, and Debora’s warm voice shines through more than ever. So this won’t just be a concert – it’ll be an experience!
Alan – Are you going to the South of Heaven festival just for a spin, or is it part of a summer tour?
Tobias Brutschi – This is part of our Storyteller Tour 2025, which takes us through large parts of Europe. We started in Austria, then went through the UK, Liechtenstein, Germany, and Switzerland – and now we’re super excited to be with you in the Czech Republic! We’ve divided the tour into 2- to 3-day sections to stay fresh and reach as many people as possible. It works really well for us.
Alan – Have you been following our festival for a long time? If so, how long, and what interested you the most about it?
Tobias Brutschi – I think small festivals are amazing. You’re still really close to the fans. There’s so much passion and effort behind the organization, from every single person involved – and you can feel that. It really motivates us to be part of something like that and contribute our piece.
Alan – Let’s go to your homeland. How do you play there? What is your background in terms of fans?
Tobias Brutschi – Switzerland may be small, but it has a very vibrant metal scene. Maybe not so much in the symphonic metal genre, but even there, there’s a lovely and truly appreciative fanbase. Right now, bands like Illumishade or Ad Infinitum are on a similar level to us.
What’s special about Deep Sun is that we’re 100% self-made. We started in 2006 as a garage band and have been playing with nearly the same lineup since 2011. For us, this is almost a family project. We love being on the road and on stage together – and the fans can definitely feel that energy.
Alan – A general question, how do you perceive festivals, what are the possibilities and conditions under which you can get to them and play with a band? Do you have any spicy experience with the conditions or approach of the festival organizer?
Tobias Brutschi – I wouldn’t say I’ve seen it all when it comes to organizers – but I’ve definitely seen a lot. There’s the whole range of experiences. Thankfully, we’ve never had a really bad one. Sure, things don’t always go as planned, but it’s never been truly awful.
That’s also because we choose where we want to play, we’re pretty flexible, and we organize things ourselves so that everything works for us. So far, it’s always worked out just fine.
Or… is there something I should know about your festival? 😉
Alan – And a related question: do you go to any festivals as fans? Which ones and why?
Tobias Brutschi – Personally, as a label manager, I sometimes go to festivals – mainly to see my own bands or to discover exciting new ones.
Alan – Finally, I would like to ask about your musical influences and what are you currently listening to?
Tobias Brutschi – Right now, I’m mostly listening to short snippets of our new songs – while creating reels for our social media channels. You really want to know what I’m listening to? Then follow us on social media!
Musically, we’re clearly influenced by symphonic metal – bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation, and maybe a touch of Epica. But we also feel right at home in power metal, which gives our songs the necessary punch alongside the epicness.
Describing it is always hard… you really need to experience us live – then you’ll see how Deep Sun truly shines.
